Q. What is Daily Fantasy Sports?
A. Daily Fantasy Sports is a fantasy sports format that allows you to enter many different fantasy sports games that last for one day up to one week depending on the sport.
Q. What’s the difference between FanDuel and DraftKings?
A. While there are many different DFS platforms, FanDuel and DraftKings are by far the most popular. FanDuel and DraftKings use slightly different roster construction and scoring.
On FanDuel an NFL lineup consists of 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K & 1 DEF. FanDuel also awards .5 points per reception. On DraftKings an NFL lineup consists of 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 FLEX and 1 DEF. DraftKings awards 1 point per reception. DraftKings also has a late swap option. This is where you can switch a player as long as that player and the replacement player have games that haven’t started (especially helpful for MNF injuries). DraftKings also has a 3 point bonus to any QB throwing for 300yds passing or better and RB or WR with 100yds rushing/receiving or better.
GPP – Guaranteed prize pool tournament. Usually consisting of thousands of entrants where the top few scorers win most of the money.
Cash Game – These are games with better odds of winning, such as Head to Head and 50/50 matchups.
Head to Head Matchup – A game between only 2 players.
50/50 – A contest where the top 50% of entrants win double the contest fee minus 10% rake.
Rake – The percentage of prize money from each contest that the hosting website keeps.
Double Up – A contest where the winning entrants (usually top 45%) win double the contest fee. These contests can also run in Triple Up and up to 10x entry fee formats.
PPR – Points per reception. In some formats, like DraftKings, players that make a reception are awarded a point for the reception alone. On FanDuel, players are awarded .5 points per reception.
Fade – A player that one is not expecting to score enough to cover their salary.
Stacking – Using 2 players from the same team (usually a QB & WR) when that team is expected to score a lot.
Bank Roll – The amount of money you have to work with.
DFS – Daily Fantasy Sports
Freeroll – A contest without an entry fee.
Overlay – When a contest isn’t sufficiently filled and the guaranteed prize money exceeds the total player money invested.
Contrarian Play – A player that is not generally expected to do well and so will be used less. This can give you an advantage in GPP’s if the player does well.
