It never hurts to have a respected veteran and future Hall of Famer in your corner when you join a new team.

That’s the situation Cardale Jones finds himself in at Los Angeles Chargers training camp, where Antonio Gates couldn’t help but praise the quarterback’s athleticism.

“The ceiling is unlimited for him,” Gates said, according to Tom Krasovic of The San Diego Union-Tribune. “Whether or not he gets there all depends on the ability to process things – on the ability to work hard and to make these sacrifices that he needs to make in the classroom and on the field. And, he’s been doing a great job at that so far.”

Jones had a difficult time cracking the field with the Buffalo Bills and it figures to be another uphill battle in Los Angeles behind Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens.

That said, Jones owns a plethora of big-game experience from his time with Ohio State and with Rivers turning 36 later this season, perhaps he’ll be a future option for Anthony Lynn behind center.
