The New York Jets suffered a major blow to their crop of skill-position players Monday.
Enunwa was projected to take over as the Jets’ No. 1 receiver. Playing behind proven veterans Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker last season, Enunwa recorded career highs in receptions (58), yards (857), and touchdowns (4).
Marshall and Decker were both jettisoned this offseason, however, leaving Enunwa as the leader of a receiving corps that includes unproven youngsters Robby Anderson, Charone Peake, ArDarius Stewart, Jalin Marshall, and Chad Hansen.
The Jets’ offense will now have to go through journeyman quarterback Josh McCown, weathered running back Matt Forte, and Bilal Powell, he of 20 career starts.
