Prior to reportedly signing Jay Cutler as their new quarterback, the Miami Dolphins apparently considered Colin Kaepernick, Tim Tebow, and Kyle Orton as replacements for Ryan Tannehill, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
The team decided to go with Cutler for multiple reasons and discarded some of the other options fairly quickly, adds Salguero, who specifies that wasn’t the Dolphins’ complete list of candidates. Cutler was, however, reportedly their top choice.
Dolphins head coach Adam Gase worked with Orton and Tebow as members of the Broncos. He served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in Denver.
Kaepernick was thought to be a potential replacement for Tannehill, who could be out for the year with a partially torn ACL, but Kaepernick’s decision to wear a Fidel Castro T-shirt before playing the Dolphins last season cast doubt on whether fans would accept his signing.
