Morten Andersen will become only the second kicker in history to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. You’d think that honor would be enough for the NFL’s video production team to know who he is.
You would be wrong. In the video honoring Andersen played at the NFL’s Gold Jacket Dinner on Friday, a photo of someone who is decidedly not Andersen was used.
The moment occurs at the 0:40 mark in this video. It highlights a photo of Roar Strand, a retired Norwegian soccer player, seated alongside other members of the Norwegian national team:
Here’s the problem: Roar Strand is not Morten Andersen. It’s unclear how the NFL could have made this mistake.
Morten Andersen is from Denmark, not Norway. Andersen just missed becoming a member of the Danish junior national soccer team and never came close to playing for the senior men’s team, as Strand did in his native Norway.
This error shouldn’t detract from Andersen’s accomplishments, but it’s a bizarre and embarrassing mistake for the NFL to make in a video meant to honor the European kicker.
