Longtime New England Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich retired Sunday.

The 11-year veteran had been excused from camp due to personal reasons. He reportedly had been considering retirement in recent years.

“After 11 seasons, 19 years total playing football, it’s time for me to walk away,” Ninkovich said at a press conference Sunday afternoon.

Ninkovich has featured in the middle of the Patriots’ defense for the past eight seasons. In that time, he compiled 423 tackles, 46 sacks, and two Super Bowl rings.

He was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for a banned substance and signed a one-year extension with the Patriots nine days later.
