The Oakland Raiders have signed their first-round pick, cornerback Gareon Conley, to his rookie contract, the team announced Friday.

Conley remains under police investigation for allegedly raping a woman in a Cleveland hotel on April 9.

The No. 24 overall pick has denied the allegations and the Raiders said the day after he was selected that they were comfortable taking him.

“The bottom line is we’ve done miles and miles of research to make sure we were totally comfortable with our decision, which we were,” said Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Conley cannot be disciplined by the NFL regardless of the investigation’s outcome, as the alleged incident occurred prior to the draft.
