The Bucs’ franchise quarterback is expected by many to ascend to the top echelon at his position in his third season. That’s no more daunting than the pressure Winston puts on himself, however.
“Ultimately, I want to be the greatest of all time one day. That has to be your goal,” Winston said in an interview with NFL Network.
It’s quite the quote from a player with two years of NFL experience, but Winston has never been modest about his abilities. He won college football’s highest honor – the Heisman Trophy – at the age of 19, and was the first redshirt freshman to win the award and a national championship in the same season. After one more year in college, Tampa Bay made him the No. 1 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Yet, to be the greatest of all time, he’ll have to top the professional accomplishments of the likes of Joe Montana and Tom Brady.
“People always say, ‘Well, that will never happen,’ but I don’t know it’ll never happen until I’m gone. So I’m gonna do anything that I can to be great,” Winston said.
