The Scam for Sam could be over before any NFL teams even have a chance to tank.
Sam Darnold, touted as one of the top quarterback prospects in the country, is reportedly no lock to leave USC for the NFL after the upcoming season. Several sources close to Darnold told NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah they wouldn’t be surprised if the star pivot stays in college for two more years.
With the 2018 NFL Draft 10 months away, it’s probably premature to speculate on what any of the top prospects will opt to do at the end of the season.
And while it’s possible the redshirt sophomore holds off on taking the next step in his career, he could cement himself as a top-five pick with another solid season – a prospect that will be hard to turn down.
Darnold threw for over 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his first season as USC’s starter and headlines a quarterback class that could also boast the likes of UCLA’s Josh Rosen, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, and Wyoming’s Josh Allen.
