A fireworks mishap during a Fourth of July celebration damaged Nissan Stadium on Tuesday night.
Rather than going off in the air, one of the firework shells landed in the upper deck of the stadium before exploding. Some concrete and some seats were blown out, according to Terry McCormick of Titans Insider.
“It took place toward the end of the show,” said Lansden Hill, owner of Pyro Shows, which was responsible for the fireworks. “The shells are supposed to go off in the air, but this one came back down and didn’t go off until it landed in the upper deck.
“It was just one of those things that will occasionally happen. That’s why the fire code requires that we keep the crowd a certain area away from it. We know out of every 1,000 shells, not all of them are going to work right.”
Monica Fawknotson, the director of Metro Sports Authority, said there were no injuries and upcoming events aren’t expected to be impacted. She confirmed that Pyro Shows is responsible for the cost of the repairs.
The Titans’ first home game of the year is set for Aug. 19, a Week 2 preseason matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
