Among the few changes to the NFL’s officiating roster looking ahead to the 2017 season is one that makes some history.
Terri Valenti will be one of the instant replay officials working with each of the 17 game-day crews, becoming the first woman to hold that position, the league announced Thursday.
Valenti makes the transition to replay official after five seasons working other roles within the instant replay department. Before joining the NFL, she served as an on-field official at various levels that include the Arena Football League and United Football League.
Sarah Thomas was hired as the league’s first female full-time official in 2015.
The NFL also confirmed all 17 referees will be returning in 2017 and that a total of eight first-year officials are being added to crews.
