Could an improbable return to football for Johnny Manziel be in the works? According to his former teammate, Travis Benjamin, don’t rule it out.

Manziel flamed out of the NFL in spectacular fashion, with a series of off-field incidents and poor play leading to his release from the Cleveland Browns in March 2016.

Since being let go by the Browns, Manziel says he’s now sober, recently got engaged, and is mulling a comeback attempt with a possible stop in the Canadian Football League.

Benjamin, a wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers, vouched for Manziel’s potential reappearance.

“I saw Johnny about a month ago with this (physical therapy) guy we go to in San Diego,” Benjamin said during a segment on NFL Network. “He looked good, he said he’s ready to come back. Hopefully he gets a shot at a team and he continues to humble himself and play good.”

It appears that Benjamin holds little doubt about Manziel trying to make the most of a second opportunity, provided that a team takes a risk on him.

“You’re going to have a guy that comes in ready to prove himself, ready to get his second chance at what he does best,” Benjamin said.
