The Cleveland Browns and free-agent cornerback Jason McCourty have reached an agreement on a two-year contract, agent Andy Simms confirmed to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal.

The deal is worth $6 million with $2 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Courtney Fallon, citing McCourty.

McCourty, released by the Tennessee Titans after eight seasons in April, was in town for a two-day visit with the Browns on Monday and Tuesday.

The 29-year-old brings some much-needed talent and veteran experience to a Browns defensive backfield that remains one of the most concerning areas on the roster.

Originally a sixth-round pick in 2009, McCourty started 90 of his 108 games played with the Titans, while tallying 13 interceptions and 73 passes defensed.

Looking ahead to training camp, McCourty could very well emerge as the favorite to start opposite longtime cornerback Joe Haden.
