The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook released the over/unders for the 2017 season on Sunday, and theScore predicts whether each AFC team will exceed or fall short of their predicted regular-season win total.
AFC | NFC (Monday)
Patriots – Over/Under 12.5 regular-season wins
It’s ambitious to project more than 12 wins for any team, but the Patriots went 14-2 before winning the Super Bowl and improved significantly this spring. This total seems almost conservative considering the Patriots’ recent history.
Dolphins – Over/Under 7 regular-season wins
Miami sneaked into the playoffs with a 10-6 record and while regression is to be expected, it’d be somewhat surprising if it fell by 3.5 games or more.
Bills – Over/Under 6.5 regular-season wins
Rex Ryan and Doug Whaley are out, Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane are in. The worst is over for the Bills, even if they face a difficult schedule this fall.
Jets – Over/Under 5 regular-season wins
The Jets are in complete disarray with Josh McCown entering the season as their likely starting quarterback. It’s going to be an ugly season until next year’s draft approaches.
Steelers – Over/Under 10.5 regular-season wins
The Steelers return with their entire offense intact, looking to avenge their AFC Championship Game loss, and remain the class of the division.
Ravens – Over/Under 9 regular-season wins
The Ravens will be respectable, but gone are the days of being a perennial Super Bowl contender.
Bengals – Over/Under 8.5 regular-season wins
The Bengals finished with a +10 point differential last season, belying their 6-9-1 record, but the days of Andy Dalton steering the team to the playoffs are over.
Browns – Over/Under 4.5 regular-season wins
Myles Garrett, David Njoku, Jabrill Peppers, and a few savvy free-agent signings make the Browns a lot more intriguing than last year. However, the Browns are still rebuilding and should be in the AFC North basement again.
Colts – Over/Under 8.5 regular-season wins
Andrew Luck is healthy and the Colts got rid of the toxic divide between Chuck Pagano and Ryan Grigson. This should be their best team since 2014.
Titans – Over/Under 8.5 regular-season wins
Don’t expect the Titans to sneak up on people this year, with Marcus Mariota quietly being billed as one of the new faces of the league.
Texans – Over/Under 8 regular-season wins
The Texans boast an elite defense and J.J. Watt returns to the lineup from back surgery, but Tom Savage is still their starting quarterback.
Jaguars – Over/Under 6.5 regular-season wins
On paper, the Jaguars should be better than their record indicates every year. Although Doug Marrone replaced Gus Bradley, bettors should be hesitant.
Raiders – Over/Under 9.5 regular-season wins
If Derek Carr is healthy, the Raiders are a genuine Super Bowl contender. This line seems somewhat unfair.
Chiefs – Over/Under 9 regular-season wins
Kansas City won nine games or more during its last four seasons, and there’s no reason to believe why the 2017 campaign will be any different.
Broncos – Over/Under 8 regular-season wins
The Broncos are among the most difficult teams to assess, sporting one of the NFL’s marquee defenses, a new head coach, and a stable of uncertain options at quarterback.
Chargers – Over/Under 7.5 regular-season wins
Anthony Lynn replaces Mike McCoy this season, but the Chargers are still outmatched in one of the NFL’s most competitive divisions.
