The NFL announced Wednesday the hiring of Alberto Riveron as its senior vice president of officiating, replacing Dean Blandino, who surprisingly resigned on April 14.

Riveron, a nine-year veteran NFL game official, will oversee the league’s new centralized replay system. He’ll be joined by Russell Yurk, who was named vice president of instant replay and administration.

Yurk, who’s spent the past seven seasons as an NFL instant replay expert, will likely be in charge of making the determinations for every call that’s put under review.

The league has essentially split Blandino’s role into two jobs, likely due to the increased responsibility that will come with the new replay system.

Riveron, the NFL’s first Hispanic referee, joined the league’s front office in 2012 as the senior director of officiating.
