New Orleans Saints center Max Unger suffered a foot injury and is expected to miss the start of the 2017 season, a source told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Unger will likely begin the campaign on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, added Rapoport.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery on the foot over this past weekend, a source told Herbie Teope of The Times-Picayune.

If the veteran is on the PUP list to start the year, he’ll miss the first six games of the regular season – a significant blow to the Saints’ strong offensive line.

Either Jack Allen or Senio Kelemete will likely move into the starting lineup if he’s forced to miss time.

Unger joined the Saints as part of the Jimmy Graham trade with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015, and he’s continued to play at a Pro Bowl level for New Orleans.
