The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be making a “major announcement” on Wednesday and Roy Cummings of Florida Football Insiders reports the press conference has been scheduled to announce the team will be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”
The series, which debuted in 2001, follows one NFL team each offseason to deliver an inside look at training camp battles, roster decisions, and preseason games ahead of the upcoming regular season.
The Buccaneers boast a young and talented roster led by quarterback Jameis Winston, All-Pro wideout Mike Evans, and perennial Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy, and the team has been bolstered by the addition of star receiver DeSean Jackson.
Several Buccaneers players and executives have publicly welcomed the possibility of being featured on the television series. The team earned a bit of exposure last season when, while riding a five-game winning streak, it was flexed into a spotlight Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Buccaneers fell just short of a playoff berth and it appears they’d like to capitalize on the opportunity to gain some more national exposure.
