The New Orleans Saints will host running back Adrian Peterson on a free-agent visit next week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Heath Evans report.

The Saints are also taking a close look at running back prospects in the draft, so they clearly aren’t content to go into next season with Mark Ingram atop their depth chart and Travaris Cadet as his backup.

Peterson has received surprisingly little interest from teams since his release by the Minnesota Vikings in late February. That may have something to do with his health – the 32-year-old was limited to just three games last season by a major knee injury.

Peterson has made it clear he wants to play for a contender. He recently visited the New England Patriots, but left without a deal. His visit to New Orleans suggests he believes the Saints are also in the hunt to win the Super Bowl.
