At the trial for Aaron Hernandez on Wednesday, the former tight end’s defense attorney Jose Baez said New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was served a subpoena, but did not appear in court, according to Christina Hager of WBZ.

Belichick had been listed as an official witness in the double-murder trial for his former player.

Despite Belichick’s absence, the case moved on and Baez rested his case with closing arguments to follow Thursday.

Hernandez is already serving a life sentence, and is on trial for the killings of two men in July 2012, allegedly over a spilled drink.
