The New England Patriots are expected to re-sign safety Duron Harmon as his opportunity to test free agency approaches, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports, citing a source.

Harmon has contributed primarily as a third safety in New England’s defensive backfield rotation over the four seasons since being selected in the third-round pick in 2013.

The versatility he brings to the defense, and particularly in sub packages, evidently made him a priority signing for the Patriots as a busy offseason gets underway.

Harmon started four of his 16 appearances this past season, tallying 29 tackles, one interceptions and two passes defensed.
