Former New England Patriots defensive lineman Frank Kearse was allegedly stabbed by his girlfriend Wednesday, suffering a minor knife wound, according to David Linton of The Attleboro Sun Chronicle.

Kearse, who was released by the Patriots on Aug. 23, initially told hospital staff he suffered a wound when carrying a box of knives. He claimed one of the knives punctured the box and cut his abdomen.

After police followed up with his girlfriend, Dominique Hooper, she allegedly admitted to assaulting Kearse with the knife. She pleaded not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in court.

Kearse was a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2011 and appeared in 19 games with the Washington Redskins over the past two seasons, recording 19 tackles and four sacks.
